It is very hard to beat a large format bottle. Nothing impresses more than a double magnum or an imperial of claret on the table, and the wine contained invariably ages more slowly and evenly over the years.
And some vintages maybe suit a format better than others. 2010s in large formats will outlast us all, though more forward vintages such as 2009, 2015 and 2019 are perhaps the optimum. These are vintages that are about ripeness and balance rather than structure and tannin.
We currently have an outstanding selection of 2019s in large format and customers will know that this is a vintage we rate very highly. Whilst there is much talk of the triumvirate of 2018, 2019 & 2020, to our palates 2019 is the real deal and head and shoulders above the vintages on either side of it – this really is one of the greats.
These are very special wines across the board, even more impressive in large format. the list can be sorted by price, score or format by clicking at the top of the relevant column.
