Bordeaux First Growths

The Official Classification of 1855 listed Haut Brion, Lafite, Latour and Margaux as Premier Crus (First Growths). In 1973 Mouton-Rothschild was elevated from Second to First Growth status.

In 1955 St Emilion was classified and Ausone and Cheval Blanc officially became First Growths. To this day, Pomerol remains unclassified but Pétrus and Le Pin are unofficially referred to as First Growths.

Today the term First Growth is loosely used to include these nine wines, and, as a result of the 2012 Reclassification of St. Emilion, Angélus and Pavie too.
