Alsace

About 90% of the wine produced in Alsace is white and these tend to be from Riesling, Gewurztraminer and Pinot Gris. In recent years, Alsatian Pinot Noir has improved drastically in quality and has started to merit attention.

Although most of the white wines are made in a dry style, two late harvest classifications – Vendange Tardive (VT) and Selection de Grains Noble (SGN) – are also produced and these are capable of ageing for decades. Alsace is a fascinating region that definitely should not be overlooked.
