Touches of wood and menthol are present on the nose of black pinot fruit, spice, violet and warm earth where the latter element is picked up by the delicious middle weight flavors that are suave and mouth coating before concluding in a raspy but not really rustic finale that also delivers fine depth and persistence. There is a touch of warmth but overall, this too should repay a decade plus of keeping.
Dark purple, the bouquet is not the freshest and there’s a touch of oak. Quite a volume of fruit with a slightly dry finish despite the indisputable volume of dark fruit, which comes back behind. Not the freshest sample perhaps because I think this is potentially a really good wine. 14.5% alcohol Tasted: December 2021.
