The 2021 Mâcon-Vergisson La Roche is appealing, exhibiting aromas of confit citrus, yellow apple, freshly baked bread and vanilla pod, followed by a medium to full-bodied, satiny and incisive palate with a tightly wound core and a saline finish.
This plot is located at the very top of La Roche de Vergisson, surrounded by parcels of Pouilly-Fuissé. East-facing slopes are dressed with very chalky soils. Free run juice is matured in wood - roughly 25% new - in this cuvée. Very pale straw colour with a fine nose of struck match, wood smoke, lemon oil and candied grapefruit peel. The palate shows impressive concentration but equal lift and vibrancy, zesty acidity coating and cleansing the palate. This is a very fine example of what the vintage can achieve, layered chalky and compact yet with real depth and focus. Long on the finish. Excellent.
