Extremely soft, up-front, classic Pessac-Leognan, the 2010 Carbonnieux possesses plenty of unsmoked cigar tobacco, roasted herbs, lavender, sweet kirsch and black currant fruit and sweet tannin. Seductive, lush and sensual, it is rather Burgundian in its elegant, savory, evolved style. Drink it over the next 15-20 years.
Tasted at the Union de Grand Cru. The Carbonnieux 2010 is a little bashful on the nose, but it is quite elegant with light blackberry and boysenberry aromas, a touch of sous-bois and cigar box. Its precocity out of barrel seems to have abated. The palate is much more promising with fine tannins, a palpable sense of symmetry and great tension and poise on the finish. Once the aromatics reveille, this will be a great little Pessac-Leognan. Tasted November 2012.
