The 2015 Le C des Carmes Haut-Brion, incidentally not the deuxième vin but rather a separate vineyard from Les Carmes Haut-Brion, is a blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon at 13.5% with a pH 3.8. There is 20% whole bunch in this blend and the wine underwent a three-week maceration. Deep inky purple in color, it has a very introverted nose. In fact, the image that entered my mind was of a totally calm sea without a puff of wind or a wave. Perhaps I am looking for a bit of turbulence? The palate is very smooth on the entry, a little saline in the mouth, the acidity nicely judged with crisp blackberry and a touch of cracked black pepper on the saline and black olive-tinged finish. It is a very polished wine that will require 2-3 years in bottle and then should offer several years of drinking pleasure. 2019 - 2028
