With its cornucopia of yellow fruit, floral notes and wet-stone character, this is at once fleshy and enormously structured. Nothing opulent or warm about it at all, though. In fact, the very long finish is decisively cool. You really need some time to take in this embarrassment of riches! From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold.
From a vineyard acquired in 1973 with a complex mineral composition in the soils. The nose is steely and saline, tightly wound with citrus fruit and a lightly creamy, savoury tone. This follows on the palate, with leesy creaminess set against pithy citrus fruit. This is a rich, dry style that shows both body and cut. It will need a year or two to flesh out in bottle but should shine from 5 years old.
