A discreet but perceptible dollop of wood sets off the aromas of white peach, lavender, citrus confit and pretty spice wisps. There is excellent volume to the delicious, energetic and precise medium weight flavors that deliver fine depth and length on the balanced finale where a chalky character slowly emerges. This is both very stylish and classy with a certain delicacy about it. Drink: 2027+
The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Champ Canet was one of the lowest-yielding cuvées chez Sauzet this year, and it's a ripe, powerful wine. Mingling notes of honeycomb, orange oil and pear with hints of fresh bread, white flowers and crushed chalk, it's medium to full-bodied, rich and textural, with a deep core of fruit and succulent acids. It will be interesting to revisit it in bottle.
