More wood than is typical for Trapet is present on the lightly herbal tea-inflected aromas of red and dark cherry, earth and a hint of humus. The nicely vibrant medium weight flavors possess a sleek mouthfeel and reasonably good concentration before culminating in a noticeably warm if delicious finish. Not surprisingly, this will need a few years to develop better depth but it's not so structured as to be unapproachable young. Drink: 2025+
Aromas of dark chocolate, grilled meats and licorice mingle with rich cassis and dark berry fruit in a complex bouquet, introducing Trapet's 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Prieur, a medium to full-bodied, layered and fleshy wine with a generous, textural profile and fine but chalky structuring tannins. It's one of the more gourmand wines in the cellar this year.
