The 2014 Volnay 1er Cru Mitans has a more loose-knit nose than the Champans. That being said, it deserves applause because you cannot tell in a million years that it is 100% whole cluster. The palate is medium-bodied, fresh and vibrant, crisp and focused with a precise, linear finish that lingers nicely in the mouth. This is a class act -- cerebral and complex.
In the same fashion as the Perrières there is quite a bit of wood and menthol character surrounding the otherwise fresh and pretty aromas of plum, spice and floral-scented nose. The intense and highly energetic middle weight flavors possess a discreet minerality and really lovely detail before culminating in a firm and mildly austere finish. This is a classic Mitans of delicacy and harmony.
