The 2019 Mâcon-Vergisson La Roche offers up pretty aromas of buttered orchard fruit, dried white flowers and blanched almonds, followed by a medium to full-bodied, elegantly textural palate that's bright and lively, concluding with a mouthwateringly tangy finish.
This vineyard is located at the top of the Roche of Vergisson surrounded by plots of the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation. The exposure is mainly to the East and the soil is very calcareous. The free run juice was vinified all in barrel, with 25% new oak. The fermentations took place until the end of December. The maturation continued for a further 6 months with a little batonnage. Bright lemon in colour, with an intense, solar nose of peach, poached pear, cream and struck flint. The palate is powerful and dense, with concentrated peach and apricot cut by savoury smokiness. There is real viscosity, adding creamy richness to the ripe fruit. This builds to a long, fine and complex finish. A superb La Roche.
