Brilliant crimson. More obviously Bordelais in shape and scent than the 'grand vin', Ornellaia itself. This bottling from younger vines reminds me powerfully of a particularly fine-boned Napa Valley Cab. Admirable length and clarity of fruit. Attractively malty sweetness – much more obviously sweet than the Ornellaia 2006 tasted alongside. This is a please-all wine with very bright fruit and neat, fine tannins. It certainly makes me look forward to the Ornellaia 2007 when it is released next year... Very well made. It sells at about a third of the price of the grand vin which seems about right.
Deep ruby with a bricky rim. Quite a noble nose with cassis, cherry and a hint of tobacco. Quite forward and solid on the nose yet supple on the palate, but its breed is clear. Wonderful, mouth-filling tannins. 2013 - 2020
