The 2006 Château Canon has a vivid, kirsch and wild strawberry bouquet with touches of orange zest and marmalade, a touch of mushroom in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with supple ripe black cherry and blackcurrant fruit, sage and melted tar. There is wonderful structure here, superb salinity, completely fulfilling the promise it demonstrated out of bottle. Perhaps yes, I was a little over-enthusiastic at that time, but after ten years it has foraged wonderful focus and vivacity. Seek this out. Drink 2016-2030.
This elegant, deep ruby/purple-tinged 2006 offers copious quantities of sweet mocha, black cherry, and black currant fruit as well as a hint of powdered rock. A nicely concentrated, medium-bodied, finesse-styled St.-Emilion, it exhibits sweet tannin as well as the potential to evolve for 12-15 years.
Balanced and fruity, with a lovely silky texture and sweet, ripe fruit. Long and caressing. Refined and harmonious.
Paler than most. Mild, ripe toasty nose - well balanced though not intense. Lightly tarry - not that much fruit on the mid palate and pretty drying tannins on the finish. A little bit hollow?
Red-ruby. Slightly inky black raspberry, blueberry and violet aromas perked up by violet and pepper. Suave and vinous on entry, then supple and on the cool side in the middle, with concentrated, moderately ripe flavors of dark fruits, minerals and bitter chocolate. Rather stylish Saint-Emilion, relying more on an edge of acidity than on its dusty tannins for shape and structure. This has put on weight since I tasted it in barrel. (A second bottle of equal quality showed more obvious tannins but avoided coming off as hard.)
Tasted privately with a negotiant. A beautiful sweet, slightly gamey nose with bright red berried fruits and hint of Medjool dates. Good definition. Very well balanced with superbly integrated new oak, good acidity and focus. Cassis, crushed violets and blueberry, with an almost Margaux-like finish. Very pretty and beautifully poised. One of the top Saint Emilions. Tasted April 2007.
A sweet, ripe, fleshy effort with soft tannins, impressive concentration, and sexy, up-front aromas of black cherries, herbs, crushed rocks, and spring flowers, this medium-bodied St.-Emilion will undoubtedly put on more weight will additional cellaring. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2024.
