Sweet spot Outstanding
A beautifully complex nose exhibits spicy and soft earth red and blue pinot fruit aromas that are trimmed in just enough wood to notice. There is excellent mid-palate density to the tautly muscular medium weight flavors that also brim with dry extract and minerality before terminating in a gorgeously long and well-balanced finale. Drink: 2027+
The 2015 Volnay 1er Cru Les Santenots offers up a brooding bouquet of cassis, wood smoke and dark chocolate, subtly framed by new oak. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, layered and chewy, with nice depth and dimension, good acids and a formidable chassis of tannin that's classic Santenots. There's a lot of substance here, but it will demand some patience, especially if it shuts down further in the next year. 2025 - 2045
