The 2016 Grand-Puy-Ducasse is deep garnet in color. It needs a little coaxing to unveil notes of baked black plums, boysenberries, and crushed blackcurrants, plus hints of dried herbs, pencil lead, and tree bark. The medium-bodied palate is clean and crunchy, delivering pure black fruits and a chewy texture, finishing with a mineral lift.
Tasted blind. Lots of everything and the acidity less obvious than in the right-bankers. Fair old charge of tannin! And then acid finish.
Drink 2026 – 2036
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Grand-Puy-Ducasse has scents of cassis, redcurrants, forest floor and bay leaves on the nose with a waft of charcoal. The medium-bodied palate is elegantly played with just enough fruit and chew, finishing earthy.
