Chambolle Musigny, Domaine Georges & Christophe Roumier 2016

Tasting Notes

A restrained and brooding if fresh and ripe nose features notes of dark berry fruit, plum and violet nuances. There is fine detail to the punchy and mineral-inflected medium-bodied flavors that are impressively dense on the mouth coating and lengthy finish. This youthfully austere is perhaps a touch less refined than it usually is but it's notably more structured and concentrated.

The 2016 Chambolle-Musigny Village was cropped at just 9.5 hectoliters per hectare due to frost, and it includes 20% to 30% whole bunch, as well as the declassified droplets of Chambolle Combottes. It initially has a bashful bouquet and gradually opens with pure red cherry and crushed strawberry scents, not delicate but perhaps understated and not wishing to make a fuss. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly coarse tannin on the entry, yet these appear more finessed on the second half whereupon it offers a touch of black pepper. Considering what the vines faced in the growing season, this should be considered a success.
