This Chateau was created in the 1950's by the late Henri Martin who was also the regisseur of Chateau Latour. Consequently it does not appear in the 1855 classification but surely would, if it were ever updated. Along with big brother Saint Pierre, the quality here has improved massively in the last few years and this is a top St Julien performer these days. 50 hectares of vines which are planted 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Petit Verdot. Usually St Julien's best value.

Tasted blind. Deep ruby-purple colour. Slightly reticent but pure cassis fruit on the nose. The depth comes on the palate – there is real drive of black fruit and bright acidity to offer real energy. There is a sweet, juicy edge to the fruit that makes this soft and approachable. The tannins are fine and offer a delicate structure against the fruit. Should drink well in the medium term.
Drink 2023 – 2033
This shows depth. Layers of fruit on a medium body. Juicy and bright with raspberry and cherry character and medium, creamy tannins. Fresh finish. Drink in 2022.
The 2017 Gloria has a medium to deep garnet-purple color. It springs out of the glass with notes of warm redcurrants, blackcurrant pastilles, and tar, plus hints of chargrill and bay leaves. Medium-bodied, the palate is soft and savory with bags of black and red berry flavors and a mineral-laced finish.
Tight but plentiful fruit extraction. The expression is a little less full than in 2016, but there is both finesse and grip to the fine, firmly held tannins as they travel through the palate, accompanying cassis, fern, rosemary, heather and cigar box notes. Enjoyable stuff.
Drinking Window 2025 - 2040
Mid crimson. Lifted cassis and cassis leaf. A little austere but very fresh and with fine-line purity. Dry, dark-chocolate finish that leaves your mouth feeling clean.
Drink 2025-2035
The nose has a minty freshness the start of the palate has a complex mix of black fruits. There is some mid generosity with fresh fruit taking over giving brightness and firmness on the finish. Drink 2025 - 2033.
Rather blunt and a little saw-dusty, this is a rather short and stubby wine but it has a lot of energy initially on the palate. What it lacks in polish it makes up for in muscle, but this will never be an elegant wine.
A tight and focused red with currants, dark berries and hints of mushrooms. Medium body, firm and silky tannins and a juicy finish.
The 2017 Gloria is medium to deep garnet-purple in color with a nose of warm blackcurrants, baked blackberries and plums with cedar, earth and herbs hints. The palate is medium-bodied, juicy, soft and easy-breezy. The blend is 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 8% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc. It was aged for 14 months in French oak, 40% new. About 65% of the production was produced as grand vin. Drink 2020-2030.
The 2017 Gloria is deep garnet-purple in color and scented of warm plums and blueberry pie with hints of potpourri, tilled soil and espresso. The palate is medium-bodied with just enough expressive fruit and a fine, approachable frame. The blend is currently 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 8% Petit Verdot.
