Notes of damp earth, composty, leafy vegetation and sweet currants, plums, and cherries in addition to some licorice jump from the glass of this evolved, deep ruby-colored wine that shows medium body, excellent concentration, an elegant but pure style, and nice texture and length. Anticipated maturity: now-2016.
Tasted blind at Farr's 2002 Bordeaux tasting. I can only assume that there was something faulty with my previous bottle of Brane-Cantenac '02 three years ago, because of its impressive performance blind. A very elegant refined nose: lovely definition and purity of fruit, hints of orange peel and apricot, then oyster shell. Ripe tannins on the palate, good fruit intensity, symmetrical, poised, black cherry and raspberry and cranberry on the finish. Excellent! Tasted October 2009.
A succession of impressive offerings from Brane-Cantenac continues with the 2002, which possesses excellent concentration as well as purity. Notes of earthy black currants and cherries intertwined with a touch of dried herbs and background truffles are followed by an attractive texture, moderate tannin, and a long, concentrated finish. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2017
