Estournelles Saint-Jacques is an exceptional 1er Cru, and it’s a highlight of the Jadot range this year. Notes of wild berries, spice, forest floor and potpourri precede an elegant, supple wine with superb energy, a lovely line of acidity, and excellent detail and precision: its purity and focus stand out.
This is even more restrained than the Lavaut with its admirably pure and distinctly floral aromas of both red and black raspberry, soft earth and hints of oak toast. The round and supple middle weight flavors possess a completely different mouth feel with equally prominent minerality though not nearly the power and muscle on the firm but not really austere finale.
The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Estournelles Saint-Jacques has a fragrant, floral bouquet with pressed white flowers complementing the red berry fruit, a touch of graphite emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannin, darker fruit than the nose implies but with pleasing roundness and fleshiness toward the finish. Probably one of Jadot's more approachable Gevrey premier crus. Drink Date 2019 - 2032
