The 2010 Larrivet Haut-Brion has a very deep colour. It offers blackberry and black olives on the nose, hints of cassis and violet, a very engaging set of aromatics. The palate is medium-bodied with saturated tannins. This is a gutsy, concentrated, powerful Margaux that has great purity and a velvety finish. Plush and sensual, this punches well above my expectations despite not reaching the heights of its peers. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners 10-Year On Bordeaux horizontal. Drink 2022-2045.
A sleeper of the vintage from this under-the-radar estate, this is a complex, fragrant, sexy style of wine with deep ruby purple color, loads of red and black fruits intermixed with caramelized character, supple tannins, a savory and expansive mid-palate and finish, and sweet tannin. I found this wine extremely endearing and far better from bottle than it had shown from barrel. Give it several years of bottle age and drink it over the following two decades. Drink Date 2015 - 2035
Deep garnet in color, the 2010 Larrivet Haut-Brion opens with scents of espresso, tar and licorice over a core of baked plums and blackcurrant cordial. Full-bodied, the palate delivers mouth-filling notes of baked blackberries and fruitcake with rugged, chewy tannins and just enough freshness, finishing a little warm and rustic. Drink 2020-2028.
