The citrus-colored 2014 Saarburger Rausch Riesling Auslese #1 (Versteigerung) was auctioned in Trier 2015 and fetched 83 Euros plus taxes. The wine opens with a beautifully clear and elegant slate aroma and very fine fruit aromas. This is a very delicate but complex Auslese of great purity, finesse and elegance whose residual sugar of 98 grams per liter is perfectly absorbed by the salty minerality of this excellent Auslese. The finish is long and full of tension, but weightless. Total production: One fuder or 1,300 bottles.
AP: 01 15. Harvested at 108° Oechsle, this complex Auslese offers incredibly fresh and pure yet ripe scents driven by mint, yellow peach and grapefruit. The freshness of the aromatics carry over onto the palate, where the portion of botrytized fruit that has gone into the wine brings creaminess but none of its telltale aromatics (i.e. honey, apricot, pineapple etc.). Some light white fruits come through in the very long and pure finish. This is still quite primary and linear at this stage but time will reveal the multiple facets of this superbly refined Auslese. 2029-2054
