A relatively reticent nose is comprised by notes of warm earth, red currant and black raspberry plus a touch of forest floor. There is fine delineation and superb energy to the muscular and intense flavors that possess terrific depth as well as knock-out persistence with only a trace of austerity though I suspect that it will become more apparent once the wine is bottled. This old-school and well-balanced effort will likely require at least 15 years of cellar time before it reaches its apogee.
The 2013 Clos de Vougeot Cuvée Vieilles Vignes, like many of Laurent Ponsot's barrels samples, displayed a touch of reduction on the nose. The palate might be a little chewy on the entry, however, there is plenty of substance here with pastille-like black fruit and a tightly wound, almost sinewy finish. Give this a few years in bottle is my advice.
