The 2014 Moulin St Georges has a surprisingly Burgundy-like bouquet with ample red cherry and wild strawberry scents on the nose, hints of persimmon, then later warm gravel. I appreciate the definition here, although it is tightly wound at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with supple ripe red cherry and strawberry fruit, what you might describe as a straightlaced Moulin St Georges that keeps its cards close to its chest. Give this two or three years in bottle. I would like to see this Saint Emilion just loosen its tie a bit. Drink Date 2020-2035
This is so perfumed with chalk, powdered stones and flowers. Pure fruit. Medium-to full-bodied, juicy and savory. Hints of salt. Drink or hold.
Tasted blind. Lifted black fruit on the nose and then pinched tannins on the end. Not very appetising.
Drink 2022-2028
The Château Moulin Saint Georges 2013 is a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, picked between 3 and 7 October and aged in 85% new oak for what will around 18 months. The pH came in at 3.50 - Pauline Vauthier remarking that is usually lower than the family's other Saint Emilion, possibly because they do not add fertilizer on the soil. It has a bright, vivacious bouquet with blueberry jam, wild strawberry and citrus fruit. The acidity really comes through conspicuously on the palate: this is razor-sharp, very edgy with a focused, minerally finish. The question is whether it would benefit from a slightly higher pH and maybe with respect to this vintage that is true. But still, this is a well crafted, personality-driven Saint Emilion. Drink: 2018 - 2032
This is very powerful and dense with minerals, limestone and a chalk character with hints of salt. Full body, silk tannins. Juicy and pretty.
