A dense and flavorful white offering plenty of lemon curd, cooked apples and stones. Full and tropical with a long finish. Gorgeous now.
65% Sauvignon Blanc, 35% Sémillon. Rather more opulent nose than most. Positively rich! Big success. Zesty and with some body and no excess of tartness.
A plump, rounded style, with a slight waxy edge to the core of peach and nectarine notes, backed by heather and lemon curd flavors. A salted butter spine keeps this honest. Drink now through 2018.
Mouton's white comes from five different parcels, all of them in Pauillac, and it's always a delicious, creamy blend, with flavours of grapefruit and fresh herbs and a stone fruit undertone. The new oak percentage has been reduced to good effect and now stands at 40%. Only 18,000 bottles made, alas.
The 2014 Blanc, 57% Sauvignon Blanc and 43% Semillon, was bottled one year earlier (September 2015); it has a fresh grapefruit and lychee-scented bouquet that is well defined, hints of passion fruit and clementine. The palate is fresh and taut on the entry with crisp acidity, very harmonious and with a tensile finish. It is not the most complex Aile d'Argent that I have encountered, but it should drink well over the next decade. Drink Date 2017-2026
The Aile d’Argent 2014 Blanc is a blend of 65% Sauvignon Blanc and 35% Sémillon. It does not quite possess the complexity of the previous two vintages, but there are fine pear skin and nectarine scents to enjoy. The palate is fresh and citric on the entry: green apple, Conference pear and a dash of lemongrass, leading to a punchy, spicy finish. Fine-but not a top-tier Aile d'Argent. Drink: 2016 - 2023
