The regular 2013 Scharzhofberger Kabinett (AP #02 14; the auctioned Kabinett Alte Reben I could not taste as yet) offers a clear, dense, fresh, spring-like, floral/herbal and lime-scented bouquet of purity, intensity, and finesse. On the palate the discreet sweetness is almost completely integrated into the filigreed, mineral texture with its pronounced yet delicate acidity and the crisp, just ripe and yet not fully developed fruit. This lean, yet multilayered 8.5% alcohol Kabinett tastes rather medium-dry than sweet and this impression will intensify over the years. The–tastable–difference to the Scharzhof estate Riesling is the finesse, transparency, purity and piquancy of the Kabinett.
(Egon Müller Scharzhofberger Riesling Kabinett #02) AP: 02 14. Gorgeous scents of smoky grapefruit, mirabelle and spices, enhanced by a delicate whiff of whipped cream on the nose lead to a gorgeously zesty feel on the palate. The aromatic precision is simply superb and the whole thing leaves a nice tart feel in the finish. This is still on the austere side of life but should blossom in a few years’ time. 2018-2028
