This long forgotten classified growth (owned by the Dourthe firm) has fashioned an elegant, medium-bodied 2001 exhibiting sweet and black currant fruit along with toasty new oak and mineral notes. The sweet attack narrows in the mouth. Drink it over the next 7-10 years.
An impressive effort from a property that seems to be on the rebound, this deep ruby/purple-colored wine reveals a classic Medoc combination of cassis, tobacco leaf, and licorice, with spicy oak and damp earth in the background. Nicely layered with low acidity, and ripe tannin, it will drink well for 10-15 years.
This obscure classified growth continues to produce better wines under the ownership of the large negociant, Dourthe. It possesses zesty acidity, firm blackberry and cherry fruit, moderate tannin, spicy new oak, and an austere but muscular finish. If the tannin becomes better integrated, it will merit a score in the upper eighties. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2014.
