An excellent wine from the Alain Vauthier family, this wine, which tends to be dominated by Merlot with some Cabernet Franc, has a dense, ruby/purple color and a nice sweet nose of blackcurrants, raspberry and incense. It is medium-bodied with excellent concentration and a long, nicely textured heady finish. A sleeper of the vintage. Drink it over the next 10-15 years.
Drink: 2015 - 2030
The Moulin Saint-Georges is a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc that was picked on the 11th and 12th October respectively. Apparently there was a little bit of rain that they hoped would stop...but it didn't. The nose is floral and generous with hints of fruitcake infusing the red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a ripe, rounded entry. It is silky smooth and there is beautiful delineation and poise towards the finish as one often founds with this often under-estimated Saint Emilion. Wonderful tension here, mainly thank to the 3.55pH - great persistency. Tasted April 2013.
Vineyard on the slope up to Pavie. 80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc on clay-limestone. Deep dark purple colour. Light, fresh, rather delicate. Fresh and just ripe. (JH)
Owned by the Vauthier family and situated close to Ausone, albeit on very different soils,
An attractive blueberry and raspberry-scented nose revealing hints of incense and licorice is followed by a medium-bodied, elegant, supple-textured wine from proprietor Alain Vauthier. This seductive, round, easygoing St.-Emilion will have considerable appeal. Drink it over the next 7-8 years.
