The 2011 La Chapelle de La Mission reveals abundant quantities of round, generous, black cherry and black currant fruit intermixed with hints of gravel and earth, sweet tannin, decent but unobtrusive acidity, and a nicely textured, lush mouthfeel. It is perfect for drinking now and over the next 10-15 years.
This is very, very pretty, with plum, chocolate and cedar, plus hints of sweet tobacco. Full, very soft tannins. Savory and juicy. Delicious already, and hard not to drink it, but better in 2017.
A classically structured red Graves, this is floral yet concentrated on the nose, with good density. The palate shows flavours of white pepper and cranberry, with refreshing acidity and a structure that is almost Italian. Fresh and high toned. 6+ years.
Floral summer fruits, clarity and purity. Quite vigourous, it needs time to soften. Drink 2016-2025.
The second wine is also a great success, revealing much of the character of its bigger brother, although not the weight or richness. The open-knit, plush, opulent, fresh, lively 2011 La Chapelle de la Mission is ideal for drinking in its first 10-15 years of life.
I can-t say enough good things about the job Jean-Philippe Delmas has done after taking over for his well-known father at La Mission-Haut-Brion and Haut-Brion. As long-time readers know, I am an addict for both of these wines
The La Chapelle de la Mission is a blend of 68.7% Merlot, 11.7% Cabernet Franc and 19.6% Cabernet Sauvignon, representing 47% of the crop. It has a light talcum nose, the Merlot expressive as one would expect given the blend, nicely defined but a little pinched. The palate is medium-bodied with angular tannins on the entry. It is a little disjointed at the moment, but there is a decent weight of earthy fruit and a terse citric finish. Fine. Tasted April 2012.
The second wine of La Mission shows a lot of restraint this year. Blueberry and lemon rind aromas and flavors. It's full and silky with fine tannins and a fresh finish. Tangy acidity and bright fruit in the end
