Pichon Lalande's second wine, the 2011 Reserve de la Comtesse offers juicy, cherry, red and black currant notes as well as a medium-bodied, elegant, finesse style. It is already drinking well and should continue to evolve nicely for another decade.
A wine with a seamless tannin structure of ripe tannins. Very fine and polished. Lovely subtle fruit. Well done for second wine of Pichon Lalande.
Sixty per cent of the crop at Pichon Lalande went into the second wine and the selection policy has worked to good effect, as this is a pretty serious red. Fleshy and opulent, with smoky black fruits, a hint of chocolate and refreshing, slightly grassy Cabernet notes and dense tannins. 8+ years
Wild violets nose, lovely length and balance. A supple classy wine. Drink 2015-2022.
The 2011 Reserve de la Comtesse is higher in alcohol, tipping the scales at 13.2%, which is attributable to the higher Merlot component (49%) blended with 43% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Petit Verdot. Its deep ruby/purple color is followed by attractive, straightforward notes of mocha, roasted herbs, white chocolate and berry fruit. Drink it over the next 7-8 years.
