Chambertin Clos de Bèze, Domaine Robert Groffier 2009

Tasting Notes

Like the Amoureuses, this started out with a bit of reduction that was gone within 20 minutes to reveal attractively spiced notes of ripe yet fresh wild red berry fruit aromas. There is moderate concentration to the medium-bodied flavors that are shaped and supported by perfectly integrated tannins, all wrapped in a lingering finish. As with all of these 2009s, this is a wine of medium structure and focused power.

The 2009 Chambertin-Clos de Beze is a dazzling, sensual Burgundy. An exciting melange of dark fruit, licorice, earthiness and incense emerges from the glass. The wine builds with notable powerful intensity towards the rich, sweeping, eternal finish. This enveloping, totally convincing Beze needs time, and lots of it. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2039.
