Picked at 4.1 Baume, 40% Touriga Nacional, 25% Tinta Franca, 20% old vines, 10% Tinta Barocca and 5% Tinta Roriz, The Graham's has an intense, earthy nose with introverted blackberry, wild hedgerow, liquorices, cassis and a touch of burnt honey. The palate is very spicy on the entry, succulent black fruits, cloves, ginger, very refined on the finish, perhaps more approachable than other 2007 ports. Very focused and harmonious but perhaps I would have like more complexity that may come with age.
The nose here can only be described as frustratingly coy but very, very pretty. Core notes of warm blackberry and black cherry are joined by violets, black pepper, cloves, licorice and a touch of mocha. The palate promises at a wine of great purity, elegance and balance to come. Layer upon layer of dark fruit and spice flavours seamlessly wrap around crisp acidity and a wonderful texture of very fine, firm tannins. Very, very long finish. Drink 2025 - 2060+. Tasted August 2009.
A candidate for wine of the vintage, the 2007 Graham's Vintage Port is complete in every way. Opaque purple-colored, it offers up an ethereal perfume of smoke, mineral, Asian spices, incense, an amalgam of ripe black fruits, and a hint of chocolate in the background. This leads to a dense, super-rich, plush, opulent wine that hides its structure under all the fruit. Vibrant, impeccably balanced, and exceptionally lengthy, it will easily age for another 25-30 years in the cellar and drink well through 2050, probably longer. It is a tour de force.
Rich and chewy, with masses of blueberry, blackberry and raisin character. Full-bodied and very sweet, with a long,powerful finish. Big and juicy, with ultraripe fruit. Racy and full of class. Like cashmere. Best after 2018.-J.S.
Saturated, deep violet-ruby color. Supersweet nose conveys a distinctly liqueur-like quality to the flamboyant dark fruit, licorice pastille and chocolate aromas. Sweet, lush, round and hugely concentrated, with extraordinary lift and purity for a vintage port with this kind of ripeness and thickness of material. The sexy dark chocolate quality carries through in the mouth. Finishes with outstanding breadth, length and sweetness of fruit. It's easy to underrate a wine that's so sweet in the early going, but this has the density, vibrancy and spine for three or four decades of development in bottle.
Blackish purple. Very rich and spicy and immediately attractive and rather luscious on the nose. Violets, liquorice and very flattering. Round and extremely fruity - so much less obviously tannic and dry than many. Is there enough tannin here? It's certainly very well hidden! Literally gorgeous now but I wonder how it will age? Again, as with Fonseca, I'll give it the benefit of the doubt that it has been made to age and that underneath all that voluptuous fruit is enough tannin for a long life. Certainly persistent.
This is the Port of the vintage. Blackberry and cassis on the nose. Very perfumed and fruity. Some mineral and wet earth underneath. Full-bodied, medium sweet and very chewy, with fabulous tannins and a big mouthfeel. Racy and powerful.
Cherry fruit bursting on to the tongue - vivacious and bright, really enthralling. Comparatively quiet nose that needs good time to realise its full potential. 20% (RH)
