This is not far behind the '03 in terms of ripeness but there is much better acidity and freshness with mocha, blackberry and blueberry notes on the nose that lead to plumy, delicious and sappy flavors that are easy to like but clearly not classic in style. I like the wine but know that this is stylistically particular.
Enjoyed alongside roast chicken, potatoes and char-grilled courgettes. It is now fully mature with a deep colour still, but a nose that suggests it is time to drink this up. In fact, Sylvie told me recently that she had vinified this vintage without sulphur, which might explain the fractionally oxidative aspect to the nose. The palate has maintained its fruit, energy and integrity, holding up very well in the glass. A satisfying wine at the end of a long and satisfying day. I would recommend drinking soon though.
