A wonderfully refined and distinctly floral nose with hints of wood spice and powerfully concentrated and ripe fruit marries with intense, precise and serious big-bodied flavors that retain the tender side of a fine Clos St. Denis yet it cedes nothing in terms of power to the Clos de la Roche. There is another dimension here and this is a knockout.
Good red-ruby. Ripe aromas of black raspberry, licorice, chocolate and wild herbs. Distinctly chunky on the palate, with less detail than Jadot's better domain cuvees This has plenty of tannic power, but the chocolatey flavor needs more lift. I suspect I caught this one at an awkward stage. Today I don't find the pungent spicy character of a wine vinified entirely with its stems.
