A stunning example of the vintage, the 2004 l’Evangile is not far off the pace of their brilliant 2005. A blend of 89% Merlot and 11% Cabernet Franc (3,000+ cases produced), it exhibits a deep ruby/plum color, superb ripeness, and sweet blackberry, truffle, acacia flower, licorice, and toasty oak aromas. This knock-out effort is surprisingly rich, opulent, and fruity with good glycerin, medium to full body, and a stunning finish. It should drink beautifully young yet age for 15 or more years.
Pretty floral and berry aromas follow through to a full-bodied palate with silky tannins and a long vanilla, berry aftertaste. I like the texture.
Quite dense nose with some sweetness but without much discernible flavour. Some lift and refreshment value. Respectable, well balanced, sufficient fruit for the tannin and just a bit of inkiness on the finish. Neat tannins. Very respectable without being a standout. Drink 2012-20
L'Evangile was definitely the Pomerol star outside the Moueix or Thienpont stables. It has ripe, perfumed, youthful berry fruit and flattering oak in a moder style. Everything is balanced, making for a charming but classic and very drinkable style Pomerol with long, raspberry length. 2008-2018
Far superior to the 2003, the 2004 exhibits a deep ruby/purple color as well as aromas and flavors of black raspberries, truffles, and incense. Medium-bodied with fine density and ripeness, this elegant, long Pomerol should drink well in 3-4 years, and last for 15 or more.
A blend of 89% Merlot and 11% Cabernet Franc, this deep ruby/purple-colored 2004 boasts a sexy, up-front bouquet of raspberries, black currants, and sweet smoky notes. Lush, seductive, and ripe, although not terribly deep, it offers delicious fruit in its forward, elegant, finesse-styled personality. Think of it as a lighter version of the brilliant 2000. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2017.
