The 2020 Riesling Idig VDP.Grosse Lage shows a clear, open, delicately mature nose with lots of iodine and broken limestone. Dense and tightly meshed on the palate, this is a concentrated, juicy and aromatic Idig with a firm structure, delicate initial ripeness and a promising finish. Drinking a younger Idig today than this 2020 makes little sense, as the characteristics of the terroir only begin to open up in the wine after around four years. Tasted at the Rebholz Kastanienbusch/Christmann Idig/Wittmann Morstein vertical tasting in Westhofen in late August 2024. Drink: 2025-2045
So deep, it feels like it’s pulling you in the direction of the center of the earth! Yet, another side of the wine seems to float above the world. Radically mineral finish that leaves you in no doubt about this great dry riesling’s future! From biodynamically grown grapes with Respekt certification. Drinkable now, but best from 2023.
