The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is just as magnificent as it has always been. A wine of stature and pedigree, the 2013 possesses stunning vertical intensity right out of the gate. Dark fruit, lavender, graphite, coffee and dried herbs are some of the notes that infuse this vivid Cabernet with striking complexity. But it is the sum of the parts that impresses most. Togni's 2013 cements its place as one of the epic wines of this legendary harvest. 2023-2043
Every time I taste Philip Togni's 2013, the more profound it seems. Bursting from the glass with complex aromas of red and black fruit, burning embers, pungent violet, rich cocoa and incipient tobacco leaf, on the palate the wine is incredibly deep, concentrated and three-dimensional. Right now it's shutting down and deserves to snooze for at least a decade before it begins to unful and reveal all its magic. Philip and his daughter Lisa are producing wines that deserve to be recognised as some of the most authoratative, classical Cabernets in all California. Drinking Window 2023 - 2080.
Englishman Philip Togni has been quietly producing some of Napa Valley’s most consistently excellent and classically proportioned wines from his estate high on Spring Mountain for decades. This deep, authoritative and complex wine will need decades to truly unfold, but it is a monument to this great vintage: its aromatics of cassis, black cherry, rich tobacco and clove are already striking, but the 2013 Togni really impresses for its spherical, three-dimensional core.
