Tasting Notes

What amazing harmony this Nahe riesling GG has in spite of the vibrancy of its very racy acidity. Amazing spice and smoke in the nose with notes of pomelo and grapefruit on the concentrated and impeccably proportioned palate. Some grapefruit pith bitterness at the finish, but this just adds to the excitement that the slatey minerality generates and beams out to the whole galaxy. Drinkable now, but best from 2024.

(Schäfer-Fröhlich Bockenauer Felseneck Riesling Trocken GG) AP: 24 23. The 2022er Felseneck Riesling GG, as it is referred to on the front label, has a gorgeously smoky and flinty nose of fine smoked bacon and quickly shows huge complexity and depth as very fine and delicate notes of aniseed, cardamom, jasmine, licorice, spices, and wild herbs come through. The wine is superbly focused and taut on the palate, The energy is huge and the freshness is superb. The finish is racy and still marked by lime, yuzu, smoke, and greengage, so that it feels hugely racy. This dry Riesling needs a couple of years to mellow away its racy side and fully shine. It clearly has upside potential. 2029-2042+
