Pale to mid lemon yellow. This is one of the riper noses where the pure chiselled white fruit of Chevalier is overlaid by a touch of honeysuckle. Which is not to disparage, because I like this wine very much, there’s a fresher fruit tension behind on the palate as well, and excellent length. It is actually very lovely. Very persistent.
Smoky aromas of mineral reduction, citrus confit, dried white peach and a hint of passion fruit are trimmed in a plethora of spice elements, especially anise. The super-sleek and strikingly well-detailed larger-scaled and notably more powerful flavors brim with minerality and dry extract on the chalky, palate staining and hugely long finale. The Combettes is excellent, but this classy effort clearly offers another dimension. (Drink starting 2032)
