Château Angludet has belonged to the Sichel family since 1961 and is now run by Benjamin Sichel. The 30 hectares of vines are planted in one contiguous block, farmed biodynamically for over 20 years. The vineyard is planted with 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41% Merlot and 13% Petit Verdot, producing around 100,000 bottles a year. Not only is the proportion of Petit Verdot very high, but a sizeable percentage of the crop is matured in amphora.

The 2023 blend is 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 17% Petit Verdot with 40% of the production being aged in amphora. The other 60% in oak - 35% new.

Tasting Notes

Bright ruby colour. A little reduced on the nose from this sample and hard to read, but there are bright blue and red fruits underneath. A midweight palate with chalky tannins and tangy acids shows more purity. The texture is slick and the fruit compact, with a slight sweetness from new oak. The finish leans more heavily into this spice, with a parma violet tone.

A polished and in-check red with blackberry, dark-chocolate and walnut aromas and flavors. It has a medium body, creamy and round tannins and a savory finish. Well done for this estate. Better than 2022.

The 2023 Angludet is quite powerful at the outset, but it feels compacted and also marked by vegetal notes. Perhaps élevage will smooth out some of the angular contours that are present today.

Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, April 2024

43% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 17% Petit Verdot. Cask sample.
The zesty, spicy edge of Petit Verdot evident on the nose. Juicy fruit on the palate, the tannins polished and fine. Gentle persistence on the finish. Should be good drinking (as opposed to investment) value. (JL) 13.7%
