Chambertin, Maison Camille Giroud 2010

Tasting Notes

A discreetly floral red berry fruit nose is also composed of a variety of other seemingly evanescent nuances that include wet stone, forest floor, rose petal, sauvage hints and damp earth. This impressive complexity is continued by the rich, intense and driving broad-shouldered flavors that are an exercise in restraint, all wrapped in a balanced, austere and incredibly persistent finish. This is one intense and muscular effort yet all of the size and weight manifests itself harmoniously, indeed there is absolutely nothing rustic about this. In a word, wonderful.

The 2010 Latricieres-Chambertin hits all of the registers. Bright floral notes lead to dark cherries, savory herbs and licorice in this gorgeous, utterly impeccable Burgundy. Today the Latricieres is obviously very young and will require considerable time to soften, but it already boasts tremendous depth and sheer personality. Slate, graphite and wet stones are some of the many notes that inform the pointed, beautifully articulated finish. David Croix notes that this parcel had a very high amount of shot berries. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2030.
