Tasting Notes

Full bottle 1,334 g. Vines planted in 1977 at 600 ft, 3.5 miles from the Pacific on sandy loam. Handpicked on 7 November. 100% whole-bunch pressed. Spontaneous fermentation and malo. Fermented in French oak barrels (20% new). Minimal sulphites. For more on Trout Gulch, see this wine of the week.
Savoury nose and truly beautiful balance. Just a little hint of 'natural' on the finish but this has real conviction and its own savoury style. Not the merest hint of California popcorn! A dry spine runs through it and really refreshes the palate. Complex but accessible. Lime and line here! (JR)

Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, March 2025

I expect this will be the most crowd-pleasing wine from Jamie's range this year. Bright lemon in colour with a riper side to the nose, the citrus mingles with peach and fleshy ripe pears, and there is a light, sweet spice to bolster the nose too. The palate starts with a white floral tone before quickly moving back to sweet Amalfi lemon, white peach and more stone fruit. There is a redolence to this wine, an easy ripeness without excess thanks to the modest abv and racy, energising acidity. The finish tightens and focuses, promising a great future. Moreish, and I expect even better with a couple of years in bottle.
