The 2014 Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru has a sophisticated bouquet with brambly red berries, briary, minerals and a subtle cedar scent that surfaces through with aeration. It feels understated vis-a-via the Griotte-Chambertin, but it has more class. The palate is medium-bodied with gentle grip on the entry. There is plenty of tart red fruit here framed by fine tannin and there is a long, spicy tail that hangs about the mouth for a long time. One of the best reds from Nicolas Potel this year, this demonstrates the skill of the winemaker.
