This Saint Estèphe château makes wines that are true to the appellation with impressive depth and concentration. Usually modestly priced en primeur. The 51 hectare vineyard is planted with 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot. Recent vintages have impressed us here. This château always performs well in blind tastings - often being mistaken for Montrose - and was a star of the "Southwold" blind tastings in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
Opening in the glass with aromas of sweet dark berries, licorice and petals, the 2022 Meyney is medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with a fleshy core of fruit girdled by sweet but firm tannins. Pure and taut, it is a strong effort that will require a bit of patience.
Impressive concentration here with compact tannin structure. Medium- to full-bodied. Firm and steady with a long, velvety finish. Minerally and crunchy.
Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2022 Meyney comes skipping out with delightful notes of wild blueberries, redcurrant jelly, and juicy plums, leading to hints of chocolate mint and lilacs. The medium to full-bodied palate is generously fruited, with a solid frame of grainy tannins to match, finishing with just enough freshness.
A vineryard that should perform strongly in this kind of vintage, because located right next to the river for air conditioning, with a mix of gravel with clear clay sections to retain freshness, and it's definitely one to look out for. Layers of redcurrant, raspberry and blackcurrant fruits, juicy mouthwatering finish, peony, pencil lead, orange peel, 3.75ph. Certainly this is a great example of Meyney. Hubert de Boüard consultant. Deep, bright, crimson hue. Lively and lifted with a touch of well-integrated vanilla oak. Dark fruit and pencil lead as it opens. Ripe and juicy but keen and long as well. Plenty of polished tannin behind. Good acidity and refreshment. Dry but not drying finish. Poised and really rather fine. Clear potential. (JL) 13.5%
