A brilliant wine and the standout of the Wild Irishman range, the nose is already intoxicating on this year's Three Colleens. White pepper, game and wild red fruits all come through on the nose which is spicy yet very pure. The palate is finely etched, very youthful and perfumed. It is full of energy, intense but never heavy with a lipsmacking saline edge to the layers of red fruit. This is Pinot that woudl give some serious Burgundy a run for its money. Very, very long and energetic on the finish.
Gibbston Valley.
Heady, lively, already well integrated fruit. Smooth and fresh. Complex. Long. (JR) 2025 - 2035
High-toned and delicately floral, this has a soaring perfume which hints at oyster-shell and cool mineral notes alongside wild strawberry and blackberry. The structure on this silky pinot noir is taut and held in by acidity, keeping everything elegant and surprisingly light-footed. Crystalline raspberry notes persist right across the very long palate, never more than light-bodied but full of energy and intensity. Intricate, detailed and poised, this uniquely silky expression will evolve over the long-term on balance and poise rather than grip. Classically beautiful.
