This wine is made from a 6 hectare section of the Roc de Cambes vineyard that is only entitled to the straight Bordeaux appellation. In the past only 20% new oak was used but Francois Mitjavile now thinks that the quality of the fruit deserves 100% new Radoux blend barrels.
The 2023 is the usual blend of 80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc
A classic Mitjaville wine, the nose is laced with exotic spice and brambly, ripe fruit. The barrel has its say on both the nose and palate, but there is enough fruit to carry it here. Supple, juicy and immediate, this is a wine that will be gorgeous to drink on release, but only for those who know and love the style made here with the Radoux blend influence.
Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2023 de Cambes comes bounding out with exuberant notes of baked plums, ripe boysenberries, and wild sage leading to hints of black truffle and fragrant soil. The medium to full-bodied palate has lovely tension and a firm texture of grippy tannins supporting the generous fruit, finishing long and earthy.
François and Émile Mitjavile owners at this good quality estate located next to the river Garonne below Château Roc de Cambes. Spicy, tight in its tannic frame with dark blue fruits and raspberry leaf aromatics.
The 2023 Domaine des Cambes is endowed with serious depth and intensity. Swaths of tannin wrap around a core of dark red plum, blood orange, spice, new leather and cedar. Floral, citrus and spice overtones reappear on the finish, adding raciness and flair. A wine of real substance, Domaine des Cambes should be terrific after a few years in bottle.
80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc. Cask sample.
Open and aromatic with raspberry coulis and floral (violet) notes. Seductive fruit, refined tannins and freshness. Early drinking but should age a bit as well. (JL) 14.5%
