Under the leadership of Hubert de Bouard since the mid 1980s, Angélus has been one of the big names of Saint Emilion, producing modern-style, deep, concentrated and ripe wines full of richness and fruit. In 2012 Angélus (along with Pavie) joined Ausone and Cheval Blanc in achieving first growth status and Hubert's daughter Stéphanie began to manage the estate. They have since left the classification along with Cheval Blanc and Ausone, leaving only Pavie and newly-promoted Figeac. In exceptional years a special cuvée - Hommage à Elisabeth Bouchet - is made. It is named in honour of honour of Elisabeth Bouchet, great-grandmother of Stéphanie de Boüard-Rivoal, and is 100% old vine Cabernet Franc. A second wine, Carillon d’Angélus, is also produced.
