Inboxes are no doubt filling at the moment with offers of 2022 Burgundy – a vintage that is seeing a great deal of acclaim. There is one thing, though: Burgundy is becoming increasingly expensive to buy on release. In many cases the new releases are more expensive – sometimes considerably so – than the back vintages.
We have an answer to this: the outstanding wines made by Jean-Marie Guffens at Maison Verget.
Many Farr Vintners customers will know of the consistent excellence of these wines, and that they punch many leagues above their weight. William Kelley of the Wine Advocate writes on the 2022s: “The best cuvées very much belong among the Mâconnais élite, but this portfolio is also rich with terrific values to purchase by the case, which would make ideal daily drinkers or by-the-glass pours.”
The selection starts at £150 per dozen in bond for the 2022 Macon Pierreclos, going up to just £420 per dozen for the premier cru Pouilly Fuissé Sur la Roche, which William Kelley rates 94 “The 2022 Pouilly-Fuissé La Roche is brilliant”.
Make no mistake on these wines: they put many of their much more expensive counterparts from the Côte d’Or to shame. They are bottled under screwcap so (a) no issues with faulty bottles and (b) they age exceptionally well. Back vintages rarely become available – these are wines that are drunk.
