This is a property to watch in Saint Emilion. Recent vintages have received high praise from the critics but prices remain very reasonable. Organically farmed, the plantings here are approximately 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.
In 2023 the wine is made from 65% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. The elevage is in a mixture of new oak, old oak, foudre and amphora.
Another beautiful wine from this perpetually improving property, the 2023 Château Mangot delivers aromas of blackberries and mulberries mingled with hints of licorice, pencil shavings, bay leaf and violets. Medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, with a seamless, complete profile and impressive mid-palate density, it's a blend of 65% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon with élevage combining, as usual, new oak, used barriques, foudre and amphorae.
The density of fruit grabs your attention, showing fullness and richness with blue fruit and a hazelnut undertone. Chewy at the end of the polished and solid palate. Structured young wine.
Vibrant ruby in colour plenty of violet reflections, attractive En Primeur colour and aromatics, with estate signature. Pretty fresh acidities, a little overly sharp, but there is plenty of raspberry and redcurrant fruit to counterbalance, and the whole thing feels full of life and tension. Todeschini family, Thomas Duclos consultant. 34ha, 25% new oak for ageing.
The 2023 Mangot is a heady, extroverted wine. Soaring Cabernet aromatics meld into a core of red cherry, plum, blood orange, spice, menthol and cinnamon. The 2023 offers an attractive combination of aromatic presence and textural creaminess. It's a big wine, to be sure. Tasted two times.
