This 4.65 hectare Pomerol property has been owned by the Moueix family since 1953 when it was purchased with Trotanoy. It is very well situated close to the famous Pomerol plateau near Le Gay and Gazin. It gained a part of the Providence vineyard when that property was merged with La Fleur Petrus. It is planted entirely with Merlot vines on gravel above clay. The wines produced here are invariably supple, smooth and creamy "Moueix Pomerol" in style, for relatively early enjoyment. Possibly the best value wine in Pomerol.
The 2023 was picked from the 7th to 19th of September. 100% Merlot as usual and smooth, plush and creamy. This will be released early in the campaign at a modest price.
A value pick again this year, this has a bright ruby colour and sweet, tangy fruit on the nose. Bright strawberries and raspberries come with creamy vanilla and a slightly darker forest fruit tone. The palate is bursting with fresh berry fruit. The tannins are glossy and ripe, allowing the fruit to shine. Supple but lifted by bright acidity, this is a moreish, approachable style that has deceptive depth. It should be delicious from a fairly early stage.
Plenty of blackberry and black-olive character to this, with cedar and sandalwood undertones. Medium to full body, firm and creamy tannins and a fresh, linear finish. More fruit and tannin at the end, but in a reserved way.
The 2023 Lagrange (Pomerol) is a bright, punchy Pomerol. Vibrant acids run through a core of red-toned fruit, blood orange and pomegranate. Exotic floral notes add further lift. There is perhaps a bit of edginess in the tannin, but that also gives this Lagrange drive and persistence. This is very nicely done.
100% Merlot. Cask sample.
Expressive red-fruit aroma. Round and caressing but with a backbone of tannin also evident. Freshness as well. Some persistence. Promises well. (JL)
